The summer has been full. I don't know where the time has gone but it seems to me that time has no boundaries in this earthly realm lately. It feels like I am peering out of a fast moving vehicle at the events in my life and only see minute details of each scene as it comes by and then quickly disappears into the past. Upon reflection, I enjoy the few details I can remember.......If I could call God I would ask him to please give me the secret to slowing time down. Let me savor the moments more.....time spent with friends.....beauty.....fragrance of the earth in the early morning light....the way the sun dances across the meadow in the late afternoon sun...... God replied "I think he would tell me I need a camera." I leave you with an image taken just a week ago at a field trip to the Wilder Ranch State Park with our group of Independent Work Study Group. No, I couldn't reach God.

Dogwood Dreaming
Sony A7R, 24-70mm, set at 50mm, f22, 1/20 sec. ISO 800
Rfoto Folio just selected this image as a finalist in the competition named One. You can view the finalists at http://rfotofolio.org/2015/07/11/one-the-rfotofolio-choices-2/.
This image was photographed at Filoli on May 21, 2015 on a field trip for our Independent Workshop Group.
The original image was processed in Lightroom5 and Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 to create that ethereal, dream like quality.
The judges wrote: This image by Barbara Moon Batista is very dream like. It reminds us of those walks in the woods when you come up on a clearing and what you find is a visual gift.
I feel like I was given a gift by the folks at Rfoto Folio. Recognition has a way of firing up the lagging energy of processing images and sharing them through completion, exhibit or the classroom.
Thank you so much Rfoto Folio, I am grateful for the gift you gave me.

DEKE, Photo by Fernando Batista
Canon 5D Mark II, ISO 100, 135mm, 1/125 sec. f4.0
Deke is our historian and works in VC as a reenact or in vintage costume, entertaining the public on a regular basis. We have the privilege of having Deke fill us in our some Virginia City history and he will also pose for us with his vintage outfits and props.
DONNA,© Photo by Fernando Batista
Canon 5D MarkII, 70mm, ISO 1250, 1/40 sec. f3.2
Donna is a local resident and graphic designer when she is not dressing up in vintage costume and reenacting the good old days. This photoshoot took place in the Mackey Mansion and we had permission to step over some of the ropes and use the rooms for our backgrounds. Very special.
Our tour guide and poet, J Paul Horgan regaled us with his poetry on the patio after our mooring session. His style is very pedantic and entertaining. JP has quite a colorful history, including a stint on the Monterey Peninsula with our own Kalissa.

I have always had a fascination with graveyards and cemeteries ever since I was a young woman. The Silver Terrace Cemetery in Virginia City is full of art and old stories. This image was taken back in 2008 with an iPhone 4 as we walked through the cemetery reading markers and enjoying the day.
Our model, Donna, is looking for a widows vintage dress so she can pose for us in the graveyard as the grieving widow. Great idea from Donna. You will enjoy working with her.

My new Sony A7R
If you have been following my posts on Facebook for the past 2 years, you may have noticed that I have a bit fickle about my camera usage. I have tried the Canon 6D, Sony Nex 6 and 7, Leica and Olympus.
I had the rare privilege of testing these cameras for students and renting the rest. I found that each camera had features I really liked but in the end I had to make a choice.
I went with the Sony A7R for a lot of reasons; but the most important was weight, full frame sensor and glass. I will post an image that I took back in October while scouting the Route 66.2 Workshop. We were in the Grand Canyon and there had been controlled burns all day. The smoke ruined the air quality as well as providing us with a nasty haze over the canyon. I want to thank Virginia Courtney for allowing me to borrow her SonyA7R rig for this trip.

Sony A7R, Sony Zeiss 24-70, ISO 4000, 1/15, f8
This shot was taken at 4:59 PM. I like the soft, painterly quality that the higher ISO gives to the hues. The background separates nicely from the foreground. The sun had left the cliff face but the afterglow certainly was enough light to make this photograph.
